Bitumen MC-30 is a type of medium-curing cutback bitumen. Here are some key points about it:
Composition: MC-30 is made by blending bitumen with a petroleum solvent, typically kerosene. This mixture reduces the viscosity of the bitumen, making it easier to handle and apply.
Viscosity: Among medium-curing cutback bitumens, MC-30 has the lowest viscosity. It contains approximately 42% kerosene and 58% penetration grade bitumen.
Applications: MC-30 is commonly used in road construction and maintenance. It is particularly effective as a prime coat, which is applied to a granular base to prepare it for laying an asphalt mixture. It helps to bond loose aggregates and waterproof the base.
Curing Time: The curing time for MC-30 is around 48 hours, making it suitable for various weather conditions.
Advantages: It does not require heating in hot seasons and is effective in cold mix asphalts and bitumen paints.
