Koroosh Crude Oil
Koroosh crude oil is one of Iran’s crude oil types, extracted from the oil layers of the South Pars field. This field is located in the Persian Gulf near Kish Island and is shared with Qatar. The extraction, processing, storage, and export of this crude oil are carried out using the Koroosh Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit, which has a storage capacity of approximately 700,000 barrels of crude oil.
Koroosh crude has an API gravity of 20, indicating that it is relatively heavy. Due to its characteristics, it yields various petroleum products after refining.
Key Derivatives of Koroosh Crude Oil
1. Heavy Fuels – Due to its heavy nature, a significant portion of Koroosh crude is refined into fuel oil (mazut), which is used in power plants and heavy industries.
2. Diesel (Gasoil) – Part of this crude is refined into diesel, widely used in transportation and industrial machinery.
3. Kerosene – Also known as jet fuel, it is used in aviation and heating applications.
4. Naphtha – This product serves as a petrochemical feedstock for producing plastics, synthetic fibers, and various chemicals.
5. Bitumen (Asphalt) – The heavier fractions of Koroosh crude are refined into bitumen, used in road construction and waterproofing.
