Bitumen MC-800 is a type of medium curing cutback bitumen. Here are some key points about it:
Composition: MC-800 is produced by blending penetration grade bitumen with a petroleum solvent, typically kerosene or diesel. This reduces the viscosity of the bitumen, making it easier to handle and apply.
Medium Curing: The “MC” stands for Medium Curing, indicating that the solvent evaporates at a medium rate. This allows the bitumen to set and bind materials effectively.
Viscosity: MC-800 has a kinematic viscosity ranging from 800 to 1600 centistokes (CST) at 60 °C.
Applications: It is commonly used as a prime coat on road bases before the final asphalt layer is applied. This helps to bind the granular base material to the asphalt layer. It is also used in cold-laid plant mixes, surface treatments, and for patching.
Specifications: MC-800 contains about 75% bitumen by volume and is manufactured according to ASTM D 2027M-13 standards.
