Bitumen Penetration Grade MC-70
VTA OIL CO. specializes in the supply and distribution of petroleum and petrochemical products
Bitumen MC-70 is a type of cutback bitumen, which is a blend of penetration grade bitumen and a petroleum solvent like kerosene. This mixture reduces the viscosity of the bitumen, making it easier to handle and apply. Here are some key points about Bitumen MC-70:
Medium Curing: The “MC” in MC-70 stands for Medium Curing, indicating that the solvent evaporates at a medium rate, leaving behind the bitumen to bind the materials.
Applications: MC-70 is primarily used as a primer in road construction. It is sprayed on the road base before the final layer of asphalt is applied. This helps to bind the granular material of the road base to the bituminous layer.
Specifications: The kinematic viscosity of MC-70 ranges from 70 to 140 mm²/s at 60 °C. It has a flash point of at least 38 °C and contains about 55% bitumen by volume.
Usage: It is typically applied at a temperature of around 50 °C. The road surface should be clean and have a temperature of at least 10 °C during application.
MC-70 is also used for dust control on unpaved roads, although its use for this purpose is restricted in some countries due to the presence of hazardous solvents.
