Types:
Straight-run Bitumen: Obtained directly from the distillation of crude oil.
Cutback Bitumen: Bitumen that has been diluted with a solvent to make it easier to work with.
Emulsion Bitumen: A mixture of bitumen and water, often used in road construction for its ease of application.
Bitumen is also known as asphalt in American English.

Bitumen is available in three types of packaging: Drums, Jumbo bags, and Bulk.
1. Drums
Bitumen is often packaged in steel drums, which are durable and leak-proof. These drums come in various sizes, typically holding around 150 &185 & 220 kg of bitumen. Drums are preferred for their safety and consistent quality during transportation.
2. Jumbo Bags
Jumbo bags, also known as bulk bags or FIBCs (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers), are large, flexible containers made from woven polypropylene. They can hold between 300 kg to 1 metric tons of bitumen. Jumbo bags are cost-effective, reduce bitumen waste, and are easier to handle compared to drums.
3. Bulk
In bulk packaging, bitumen is transported in specialized tankers. This method is efficient for large-scale projects as it allows for the direct transfer of bitumen from the refinery to the construction site. Bulk transport is ideal for minimizing handling and reducing packaging costs.

Bitumen is available in various grades and types, each suited for specific applications. Here are some common types of bitumen based on their analysis:
1. Penetration Grade Bitumen
This type is classified based on its hardness or softness, determined by the depth a standard needle penetrates the bitumen sample under specific conditions. It is commonly used in road construction.
2. Viscosity Grade Bitumen
Viscosity grade bitumen is categorized based on its viscosity, which measures the resistance to flow. This type is also widely used in paving and road construction.
3. Cutback Bitumen
Cutback bitumen is bitumen that has been diluted with a solvent to reduce its viscosity for easier application. It is often used in road maintenance and repair.
4. Bitumen Emulsion
This is a mixture of bitumen and water, stabilized by an emulsifying agent. It is used for surface treatments and road construction due to its ease of application and environmental benefits.
5. Oxidized Bitumen
Oxidized bitumen is produced by blowing air through bitumen at high temperatures, increasing its hardness and softening point. It is used in roofing, waterproofing, and industrial applications.
